4 dead, over 120 injured after M4.9 earthquake hits northeastern Iran

A shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M4.9 hit northeastern Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province at 09:54 UTC on June 19, 2024. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).
The epicenter was located 2.6 km (1.6 miles) NNW of Kāshmar (population 96 151), and 44.3 km (27.5 miles) E of Bardaskan (population 28 233), Razavi Khorasan.
According to local officials, the quake caused significant damage across urban and rural areas of the town of Kashmar, with older structures impacted particularly hard.
At least 4 people died and 120 injured. 35 people were hospitalized.
