Asteroid 2019 NF7 flew past Earth at 0.98 lunar distances
A newly discovered asteroid designated 2019 NF7 flew past Earth at a distance of 0.98 LD / 0.00253 AU (378 482 km / 235 178 miles) on July 9, 2019. This is the 30th known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year.
This object belongs to the Amor group of asteroids.
It was first observed at Palomar Mountain, ZTF on July 9, 2019, and made known to the public by CNEOS on July 18.
The asteroid has an estimated diameter between 29 and 66 mm (95 – 216 feet). It flew past us at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 9.30 km/s at 12:07 UTC.
