Another winter storm is expected to impact the southern United States starting Thursday, January 9, following the year’s first major winter storm, which resulted in six fatalities and caused significant disruptions across several states.
A storm system developing along the Gulf Coast, combined with Arctic air moving southward, is predicted to bring wintry weather to parts of the Southern Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, and Mid-South from Thursday morning through Friday evening, January 10.

Precipitation is anticipated to be predominantly snow in most affected areas, while sleet and freezing rain are expected farther south.
Hazardous travel conditions could begin affecting West Texas and southeastern New Mexico as early as Wednesday night, January 8, gradually extending eastward on Thursday and Friday.
The heaviest snowfall is forecast for parts of North Texas, southeastern Oklahoma, and central Arkansas, though there remains uncertainty about the exact snow and ice accumulation amounts.
