Coastal storm prompts flood warnings in Virginia, U.S.
Coastal Flood Warnings were issued for several counties in Virginia on Thursday, November 14, 2024, after the National Weather Service (NWS) warned of a coastal storm that will impact the region from Thursday into Friday, November 15 with up to 61 cm (2 feet) of flooding being expected in the affected areas.

Coastal Flood Warnings have been issued for several counties in Virginia, remaining in effect from 03:00 to 06:00 local time (LT) on Friday, while a Coastal Flood Advisory will stay in effect until 03:00 LT on Friday.
The advisories follow a warning from the National Weather Service (NWS) about a coastal storm expected to impact the region on Thursday, and continue into Friday. Moderate to locally heavy rainfall, with totals of up to 50.8 mm (2 inches), is expected in parts of the state.
The warnings are in effect for Mathews County, Northampton County, Gloucester County, and York County, as well as several other counties in the state.
According to the NWS, up to 30.5 cm (1 foot) of flooding is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways during the Coastal Flood Advisory period.
Flooding of up to 61 cm (2 feet) is anticipated in low-lying areas near tidal waterways and shorelines during the Coastal Flood Warning period.
Road closures and damage to homes and properties are anticipated as flooding extends inland from waterfront areas along the tidal rivers, according to the NWS.
