A bright fireball was observed over the skies of New Zealand on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at around 07:53 UTC.
A bright fireball was seen over Canterbury, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatū-Whanganui, Marlborough, and Wellington on Sunday at around 07:53 UTC.
The American Meteor Society received 35 reports of the fireball’s sighting and designated it event number 6399-2024.
The duration of the observation varied across different locations with the longest lasting for around 7.5 seconds, and the shortest lasting less than a second.
The fireball produced no sound and had a magnitude varying between -5 and -18 across different locations.
