Flash floods damaged 2 500 homes, affected more than 10 000 people in Coahuila, Mexico

Heavy rain affecting several areas of northeastern Mexico over the past few days caused damaging flash floods. More heavy rain and local thunderstorms may occur over the already affected areas over the next 48 hours.
The rain caused Arroyo El Soldado river in the city of Piedras Negras (population 250 000), Coahuila to overflow, damaging 2 500 homes and affecting more than 10 000 people. Around 20 people were forced to evacuate and infrastructural damage is considerable but there were no injuries or fatalities reported.
The area received more than 150 mm (5.9 inches) of rain from late September 3 to early September 4, local civil protection service said.
Areas north of the city were the worst affected, including the districts of Tierra y Esperanza, Hacienda de Luna, Las Argentinas and Malvinas, according to FloodList.
Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rain with local thunderstorms may occur over the already affected areas.
