Air quality in Delhi deteriorates beyond severe levels after dust storm sweeps over western India
The air quality in Delhi deteriorated beyond the "severe" level on June 14, 2018, because of a ground-level dust storm in western India that had increased coarser particles in the air, according to data provided by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The CPCB data showed that the PM10 (particles with diameter less than 10 mm) level was beyond "severe" at 778 in Delhi-NCR area and 824 in Delhi particularly, leading to hazy conditions and limiting visibility.
Among several measures to improve the air quality, all construction activities have been stopped, fire officials will sprinkle water and machines will sweep streets, NDTV reports.
"There will be strong dust raising winds throughout the day. This will continue on Friday as well," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
