Rare tornado damages flower nurseries and greenhouses in Fujian, China
A rare tornado struck Yongfu Town in Zhangping, China’s Fujian Province, on the afternoon of May 12, 2026, damaging dozens of flower nurseries and greenhouses in the area.

A rare tornado struck Yongfu Town in Zhangping County, Fujian Province, on May 12, causing damage to greenhouses and flower nurseries in the area. It was reported as the first tornado to hit Zhangping in three years.
The twister affected Zhunag Village and the Wai Xin Fang area in Yongfu. A local named Mr. Li reported that over a dozen flower gardens were damaged due to the tornado. However, the total extent of the damage remains unknown.
The Zhangping Observatory issued a Yellow Alert for severe thunderstorms over the area at around 12:34 local time (LT) on May 12, before the tornado struck. Winds of 50-90 km/h (32-55 mph) were forecast across the region.
