Strong and shallow M6.8 earthquake hits east of Beauséjour, Guadeloupe
A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.5 struck east of Beauséjour, Guadeloupe, at 12:38 UTC (08:38 local time) on October 27, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.5 at a depth of 10 km (6 miles). According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.

The epicenter was located 162 km (101 miles) E of Beauséjour (population 1 716), 184 km (115 miles) E of Saint-François (population 12 732), and 191 km (118 miles) E of Le Moule (population 22 692).
125 000 people are estimated to have felt weak shaking, and 58 000 light.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though resistant structures exist. The predominant vulnerable building types are informal (metal, timber, GI etc.) and rubble/field stone masonry construction.
Little or no landsliding/liquefaction is expected, but some could have occurred in highly susceptible areas.
The quake was followed by an M6.0 aftershock at 13:54 UTC, at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).
