The victim, a 40-year-old man, was swept away by floodwaters in the El Amparo sector of the Sucre parish while riding a motorcycle. According to the Caracas Fire Department, he became trapped under a public transport vehicle and was found without vital signs.

Significant impacts were reported in various neighborhoods. In El Amparo, vehicles were dragged by strong currents. In Propatria (Mario Briceño sector), motorcycles and cars were swept away by floodwaters, while in La Pastora (Los Mecedores), at least three houses sustained water damage. Residents noted that blocked or uncovered storm drains contributed to the severity of flooding in several areas.

Emergency services, including the Caracas Fire Department, the Bolivarian National Police, and the Scientific, Penal, and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC), responded to the incident. Mayor Carmen Meléndez visited the affected areas on August 18 to assess damage and coordinate the response.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh) forecast continued rainfall and electrical activity across Greater Caracas and other regions through August 18, linked to the passage of tropical disturbances. The agency advised caution due to the potential for further rainfall and storm-related hazards.

Earlier in August 2025, the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) reported major flooding in Anzoátegui State, which displaced over 4 400 people.

Flooding events are recurrent in Caracas during intense rainfall, with local residents repeatedly urging authorities to improve drainage infrastructure to reduce future impacts.
