A shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 hit the southern East Pacific Rise at 03:55 UTC on May 5, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting the same magnitude and depth.

The epicenter was located 922 km (573 miles) SSE of Hanga Roa and 3 007 km (1 869 miles) WNW of Valdivia, Chile.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
There are no affected structures in this region.
