Strong winds and heavy rainfall wreak havoc in eastern Mexico’s Veracruz State

One person was killed in Coatzacoalcos City, and over 700 houses were affected by floods in Veracruz State, Mexico, due to heavy rainfall and strong winds over the past few days. Additionally, a new tropical cyclone named Norma is expected to approach Baja California Sur on October 22 – 23, 2023.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds have caused significant damage in Veracruz State, situated in eastern Mexico. According to official data from local authorities, one casualty occurred in Coatzacoalcos City as a direct result of the severe weather conditions. Furthermore, more than 700 houses were affected by flooding, impacting nine municipalities in the state.

The death in Coatzacoalcos City occurred due to strong winds, adding to the growing list of severe weather-related incidents in the region. No further details have been released about the victim at this time.

As per the latest meteorological forecasts, moderate rain is expected to continue over the affected areas in Veracruz State for the next 24 hours. However, heavy rainfall is anticipated over Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero.

Additionally, a newly formed tropical cyclone, Norma, is expected to make landfall on the western coasts of Mexico, particularly in Baja California Sur, between October 22 and 23. The cyclone is forecasted to bring additional heavy rainfall and strong winds to the region.

Local authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, as the risk of landslides has increased due to the ongoing rainfall.
