A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 hit Santa Cruz Islands, Solomon Islands at 13:03 UTC on August 20, 2019. The agency is reporting a depth of 45 km (28 miles). EMSC is reporting the same magnitude and depth.
The epicenter was located 89 km (55 miles) SE Lata (population 553), Solomon Islands and 471 km (293 miles) N of Luganville (population 13 397), Vanuatu.
There are about 23 000 people living within 100 km (62 miles).
There are no tsunami warnings, watches or advisories in effect.
