A Level 4 flood warning has been issued for China’s Hainan province after the outer rain belt of Tropical Cyclone “Trami” brought record-breaking rainfall to parts of the province leading to severe floods in the cities of Sanya and Wanning.
Typhoon “Kong-rey” is rapidly intensifying as it moves west-northwest toward Taiwan. The current forecast track calls for landfall on Taiwan’s southeastern coast within the next 48 – 60 hours. However, a shift westward could also lead to a direct landfall on Batanes, Philippines. Kong-rey is forecast to significantly strengthen and potentially reach super typhoon status as it approaches Taiwan.
Severe Tropical Storm “Trami” made landfall in Divalacan, Isabela, Philippines on October 23, 2024, causing widespread flooding and landslides in which at least 90 people died and 36 remain missing. Trami reached Vietnam on October 27 and made landfall in Thua Thien-Hue and Da Nang at around 03:00 UTC, with maximum sustained winds of 88 km/h (55 mph).
Three people have been reported dead in Bicol, Philippines due to the floods and landslides triggered by the approaching Tropical Storm “Trami” (Kristine). The storm is expected to make landfall during the night of Wednesday, October 23, 2024 (LT), near Isabela. The system has already forced thousands to flee their homes before landfall. Several homes have already been destroyed even before the worst impact of the storm.

Typhoon “Krathon” made landfall in Kaohsiung’s Xiaogang district of southern Taiwan at 12:40 LT (04:40 UTC) on October 3, 2024, with maximum sustained winds of 126 km/h (78 mph). The slow-moving storm, affecting the island for five days, dumped torrential rains, with mountainous parts receiving up to 1 676 mm (66 inches) of rain. At least 2 people have been killed.
Typhoon “Krathon” reached super typhoon strength on September 30, 2024, after leaving at least 2 people dead in the Philippines. The system is expected to slightly weaken before its center approaches Taiwan on October 2 and 3. Krathon will be the first landfalling typhoon in southwestern Taiwan since 1988, bringing strong winds and heavy rain, with up to 1 000 m (39 inches) in mountainous regions.

The storm is now heading towards Shanghai, marking the second storm to hit the city in under a week, following Typhoon “Bebinka”.
Typhoon “Bebinca” struck Jiangsu province in China on Monday, September 16, 2024, with gust speeds of 151 km/h (94 mph), making it the strongest typhoon to hit the province since records began.
