A rainfall-induced landslide struck Mbeya Region in southwestern Tanzania in March 2026, killing at least 20 people, local authorities confirmed on March 26.
According to the Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS), 18 bodies were recovered in Rungwe, Mbeya, including 14 children, on March 25. Five others have been injured. Two more bodies were found on March 26, bringing the death toll to 20.
Several houses have been destroyed, leaving families homeless. Moreover, some people are feared to be trapped under the debris, and search‑and‑rescue operations led by the authorities are ongoing.
