The epicenter was located 1 966 km (1 222 miles) SW of Augusta (population 1 362), and 2 035 km (1 265 miles) SW of Busselton, Western Australia.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
There are likely to be no affected structures in this region.
The quake was followed by M5.2 at 02:25 UTC at the same depth.
