A swarm of earthquakes rattled the Los Angeles area in California early Monday, April 5, 2021, following an M4.0 earthquake 2 km (1.2 miles) east of Lennox. The USGS received more than 7 400 'I felt it' reports.

The Lennox quake was 19.9 km (12.4 miles) deep and occurred at 14:44 UTC (07:44 LT). It followed an M2.5 tremor at 11:15 UTC (04:15 LT) at a depth of 25.9 km (16 miles) in the same area.

By 15:00 UTC (08:00 LT), around 40 aftershocks shook the Inglewood and Lennox area, according to USGS geophysicist Paul Caruso, noting that the mainshock was "pretty deep for California," since quakes in the area are usually about 5 km (3 miles) deep.

The foreshock and flurry of aftershocks occurred at around the same depth.

USGS earthquake expert Dr. Lucy Jones said the M4.0 quake was powerful enough to be felt by most people awake in LA, adding that it probably was not on any mapped faults. "It's such a small fault, that it isn't noticeable," Jones said.

Inglewood resident Lori Campbell, who lives two blocks from Forum, near the quake's epicenter, said she felt "two strong jolts, not rolling like usual."

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said no damage has been reported. However, residents reported power outages, although a representative for Southern California Edison said no service had been interrupted.

  1. Some day it will not be a minor shaking, someday those of you living on God’s west coast etch-a-sketch will be shaken to an extent that will dwarf the San Fernando Valley 6.7 earthquake on January 17, 1994. I will always keep people in my prayers who are going through major catastrophes and disasters. However, after losing my sweet cute beautiful petite young wife to cancer; at her young age of forty-four, I have had to accept the fact that in most cases our prayer will not be answered. I have had to accept the fact that in most cases God’s answer to our prayers is simple, yet heartbreaking, “No.” This is not because God is uncaring, no not at all. This is not because God is in any way unkind. This is not because God is in any way mean. Nor is God evil and vengeful. No, it is because God is sovereign and does not own us, His created beings, answers. God will answer two of our questions: “Where do you want me to go?” and “What do you want me to do?” Beyond those two simple questions, God does not owe humans any other answers that are not already spoken of and spelled out in His Torah, and His Holy Bible. Seriously, want to know where God wants to send you, and what God wants you to do? Study His Word (Holy Bible – Torah), ask, pray, ask, fast, and ask again. In God’s perfect due time, God will answer us. Beyond these two things, even in our darkest hours, losing loved ones to crippling cancer, losing loved ones to devastating natural disasters, God still is sovereign and still allows both the sinner and the saint to go through the same torments. Matthew 5:45 – “That ye may be the children of your Father, which is in heaven. For He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” When innocent children and hardened gang members both died from catastrophic natural disasters, nothing is different, and no one more deserving than another.
