Wildfires force evacations in Quilpue, Valparaiso, Chile

At least two wildfires are burning in Quilpue (population 172 000), Valparaiso, Chile, prompting the country's National Emergency Office (ONEMI) to order the evacuation of some parts of the city.

At least 6 homes have been already been consumed by flames, ONEMI said.

The authorities are urging people to remain calm and follow directions.

A large fire is burning in the nearby Lago Peñuelas National Reserve. It has so far consumed more than 400 ha (1 000 acres) and remains active with medium to high intensity.
