Heavy monsoon rains affecting parts of Yemen on August 6 and 7, 2019, displaced hundreds of people and left at least 12 people dead.

The worst-hit was the northwestern province of Mahweet, affected by southwest monsoon each year from June to September.

"Nine people have died from drowning after the severe floodings destroyed several houses and inundated others in Milhan district," the authorities said in a bulletin issued August 7. Unfortunately, the number of casualties rose to 12 on August 8.

According to local media reports, health authorities and residents are in fear of cholera spreading in the rainy season as the ongoing civil war has damaged many health facilities and disabled much of the infrastructure for clean water and sanitation.
