Severe thunderstorms, large hail hit North Carolina, U.S.
Severe thunderstorms hit North Carolina on Monday, March 13, 2019, downing trees and causing damage to homes, buildings and cars.
Thunderstorms with hail from 42 to 66 mm (1.6 – 2.6 inches) hit north and east of Raleigh, NC, damaging homes, toppling down trees and blocking traffic.
An unconfirmed tornado (EF-1 to EF-2) moved through eastern Wake County for several minutes. NWS was unable to complete damage surveys on Monday, but preliminary reports said the tornado first touched down west of Rolesville Road and Tink's Place and then crossed U.S Route 264 and moved along N.C. Highway 97 into Zebulon, WRAL reports.
Hail as large as tennis balls moved just south of Raleigh, severely damaging vehicles.
