M6.0 earthquake hits near Zavodovski Island at intermediate depth

A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.0 hit South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands region at 14:49 UTC on April 22, 2019. The agency is reporting a depth of 93.6 km (58.1 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.0 at a depth of 100 km (62 miles).

The epicenter was located 13 km (8 miles) E of Zavodovski Island and 50 km (30 miles) N of Visokoi Island.

There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).

There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.

This is the third M6.0 earthquake to hit the region after M6.5 on April 5 and 9.
