A tornado ripped through 7 villages of Indian Jamalpur and Lalmonirhat districts on Sunday, September 21, razing at least 60 dwelling houses. Around 150 more are reportedly damaged.

Officials estimated at least 100 houses were damaged as it hit Lauchapra village in Jamalpur. 

800 trees were uprooted and three people injured. Local administration sources said the storm hit the village at around 07:00 local time and lasted one minute. At least 60 houses were razed to the ground while 40 others partially damaged, sources added.

Over 150 families of bordering Lauchapra village were badly affected as their houses were completely destroyed.

In Lalmonirhat district, over 100 dwelling houses were damaged and a good number of trees uprooted in six villages of Sadar upazila. Locals said the violent storm hit the villages at around noon and lasted for 35 to 40 seconds.

The affected villages are Roypara, Uttar Saptana, Khorarphul, Fulgachh, Shahitari and Shaheed Shahjahan Colonypara.
