Short but intense hailstorm flooded the Spanish city of Teruel on Tuesday, September 9, 2014.

Heavy downpour lasted only about 20 minutes but the amount of devastation it caused is still surprising. About 1 000 people were left without power, cars were washed away and crops in nearby fields were damaged.

Police and rescue services used cranes to move vehicles from the path of the flood to avoid the creation of uncontrolled dams.

Weather stations measured 11.6 liters per square meter in just over 20 minutes.

This region experienced a similar downpour on August 30, 2014. (diariodeteruel.es)
