Potential Tropical Cyclone 13 is strengthening in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to become a tropical depression by tonight (LT), October 6 and become a tropical storm on Friday, October 7.

Orlene rapidly strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane over the past two days and is now weakening as it approaches southwestern Mexico. Weakening is expected to continue during the next day or so, however, Orlene is forecast to be a strong hurricane when it passes near or over the Islas Marias, and remain a hurricane when it reaches southwestern Mexico.

Strengthening is forecast until it makes landfall, and Ian is forecast to approach the west coast of Florida as an extremely dangerous major hurricane.

Category 3 Hurricane “Ian” made landfall just southwest of the town of La Coloma in the Pinar del Rio Province of Cuba at 08:30 UTC on September 27, 2022, with maximum sustained winds of 205 km/h (125 mph) and a minimum central pressure of 952 hPa.

Ian strengthened into a major hurricane (Category 3) at 06:30 UTC on September 27, 2022, just 2 hours before making landfall in western Cuba. Significant wind and storm surge are occurring over the region.

The number of fatalities after the passage of Super Typhoon “Noru” over the Philippines on September 25, 2022, rose to 8 on September 27. The typhoon is now approaching central Vietnam, with landfall expected near Da Nang, Vietnam early September 28 (UTC).

The number of fatalities caused by Hurricane “Fiona” in Puerto Rico rose to 16 on September 26, the Government of Puerto Rico reports. The entire island (population 3.1 million) was without power after landfall on September 18. The number of customers without power was at 746 000 on September 26, and at 528 000 early on September 27.
