Two M6.0 earthquakes struck the western Indian-Antarctic Ridge within 10 minutes, at 14:51 UTC and 15:01 UTC on May 27, 2026.

Both quakes were located in the same area, about 990 km (620 miles) SW of Geeveston, Tasmania, at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).

The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

There are likely to be no affected structures in this region.

There is no tsunami threat.
