A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.2 struck Timor Leste at 17:04 UTC on October 26, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 75 km (46.6 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.2 at a depth of 83 km (51.6 miles).

The epicenter was located 60 km (37 miles) NW of Pante Makasar (population 4 730), 86 km (54 miles) NW of Kefamenanu (population 48 202) and 107 km (66 miles) WNW of Atambua (population 82 196).
29 000 people are estimated to have felt moderate shaking, 3 141 000 light, and 976 000 weak.
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though some are resistant. The predominant vulnerable building types are unreinforced brick with concrete floor and precast concrete frame with wall construction.
Recent earthquakes in this area have caused secondary hazards such as landslides that might have contributed to losses.
Liquefaction hazard is estimated to be minor. Landslides triggered by this earthquake are expected to be few in number and localized.
