PHIVOLCS said it does not expect any damage from this earthquake, but aftershocks are likely.

The quake was tectonic in nature, it added.

The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are a mix of vulnerable and earthquake-resistant construction. The predominant vulnerable building types are unknown/miscellaneous types and heavy wood frame construction.

Recent earthquakes in this area have caused secondary hazards such as landslides and liquefaction that might have contributed to losses.

Initial reports by local government units indicate that landslides have caused road blockages in the towns of Agoncillo and Bauan in Batangas, ECHO reports.

Some public infrastructure such as schools and market buildings suffered minor damages. A number of shelters in Batangas and Occidental Mindoro provinces are damaged.

These communities are currently also experiencing heavy rains due to the Southwest monsoon.
