800 homes damaged or destroyed as hailstorm hits Mizoram’s Lunglei, India

Mizoram authorities are reporting around 800 homes in the town of Lunglei (population 57 011) and nearby villages were either damaged or destroyed after a hailstorm swept over the area on Sunday night, February 17, 2019.
The Disaster Management and Rehabilitation (DMR) department officials said detailed information about the extent of the damage is still being prepared.
What we know so far is that at least 796 homes were either completely or partially damaged.

The majority of damaged homes had tin roofs, DMR said, adding that the hailstorm also broke many window panes, rendering the houses uninhabitable.
Mizoram capital, Aizawl and other places in the state were also affected by the hailstorm.
There are no reports of casualties.
