Wettest April day in Indianapolis on record, Indiana
Indianapolis, Indiana reported 85.6 mm (3.37 inches) of rain as of mid-afternoon April 3, 2018, making it the wettest April day on record.
Tuesday, April 3 in Indianapolis started with the city hit by heavy rainfall, while still dealing with melting snow from April 2.
Several road closures were reported in and around the city and with more rain on the way, it remained under a flash flood warning.
Flooding hampered area travel through much of the day, with the rain adding on to what’s already been a very wet start to 2018.
Indianapolis has now picked up more than 355.6 mm (14 inches) of rain since January 1, almost double the typical year-to-date average of about 230 mm (9 inches), according to WeatherNation.

Indianapolis was also under a tornado watch until 00:00 UTC (20:00 local time) on April 3, with a line of strong storms set to deliver more rain and add to the record.
The combination has led to a frustrating morning for commuters as crashes and closed roads persist, according to Indystar.
