A violent hailstorm hit Italian towns of Grottammare and San Benedetto del Tronto, Marche province in central Italy on July 25, 2017, covering towns and their sandy beaches in a thick layer of ice.

The storm, accompanied by heavy rain and violent wind bursts, dropped significant amounts of hail, with some of the hailstones as big as tennis balls, local media report.

Hailstones damaged roofs, windows, cars and other infrastructure. Numerous calls have been made to emergency services

The hailstorm comes after two days of severe weather across the country and central Europe.
