Shallow M6.5 earthquake hits off South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.5 hit off South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands at 23:23 UTC on May 10, 2017. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).
The epicenter was located 2373.3 km (1474.7 miles) SSW of Edinburgh of the Seven Seas (population 271), Saint Helena and 2644 km (1642.9 miles) ENE of Ushuaia (population 58 028), Argentina.
There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).
Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake, PTWC said.
