Avalanche buries a house in Gurez, kills 4, Kashmir

An avalanche buried a house in Badugam village in Gurez sector near the Line of Control in Kashmir on January 25, 2017, killing four members of a family.
A police official said that the avalanche struck Badugam village in Tulail area of Gurez in the wee hours of Wednesday. One person was rescued and admitted to a hospital.
Authorities have issued Avalanche Warning for higher reaches of the Gurez valley following fresh snowfall on Tuesday, January 24, and advised people to stay away from the mountains and foothills.

Gurez valley and Razdan Top have received around 3.4 m (11 feet) of fresh snow during the last 48 hours, making the area prone to avalanches.
