magnitude-6-8-earthquake-at-banda-sea

A strong earthquake 6.8 magnitude struck in Banda Sea. Epicenter was 272 km (169 miles) NNE of Dili, Timor-Leste and
337 km (209 miles) SSW of Ambon, Moluccas, Indonesia. Epicenter was on depth of 465 km (289.0 miles). It didn’t triggered tsunami waves.

The aftershocks maybe fierce but will be probably as deep as the mainshock and in most cases not be felt by humans. This earthquake has not the capacity to generate a tsunami as it was very deep in the hot mantle of the earth.

Very strong to massive very deep quakes are mostly felt in a very wide area (aften more than 1,000 km radius), but are rarely giving a strong shaking. Even the shaking above the epicenter is limited.
