• Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS may become the brightest comet in recent years

Comet 2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS), discovered in January 2023 by the Tsuchinshan Observatory and the ATLAS project, has reemerged from behind the Sun and is rapidly brightening. It is expected to become one of the brightest comets in recent years, with peak visibility between October 7 and 12, 2024, as it approaches Earth and the Sun.

  • Desert turns green in China after Ningxia sees 5 times the average rainfall in August

The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, in northwestern China, saw 5 to 10 times the monthly average rainfall in August 2024, transforming the desert landscape into a beautiful lush green scenery. Similarly, satellite images of Africa’s Sahara show a visible increase in vegetation compared to 2023. The unusual rains, expected to bring 500% of typical monthly rainfall to some regions, have even filled normally dry lakes in the Sahara.

  • Satellite images reveal Sahara desert turning green

Satellite images of the Sahara show a visible increase in vegetation compared to 2023, this has been caused by the increased precipitation over the region linked to the recent northward shift of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). The increased rain over the Sahara desert has led to the growth of visible vegetation in certain areas….

  • Europe hit by abrupt weather shift as heat dome collapses, bringing early snowfall, torrential rainfall and cold blast

Europe is experiencing a sharp weather shift following the collapse of a persistent heat dome that had brought record-breaking temperatures across the continent in early September 2024. As the heatwave subsided, parts of central Europe transitioned abruptly from extreme summer heat to unusually cold and wet conditions. Austria, for example, saw early snowfall shortly after temperatures had soared above seasonal norms. This sudden weather shift, caused by a breakdown of the high-pressure system, is now leading to prolonged rains and cold blasts in central Europe.
