Very strong M6.9 earthquake hits Reykjanes Ridge
A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.9 hit Reykjanes Ridge, Atlantic Ocean, at 14:09 UTC on April 3, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.8 at a depth of 7 km (4.3 miles).

The epicenter was located 1 168 km (726 miles) SE of Nanortalik, Greenland, and 1 388 km (863 miles) SSE of Keflavik, Iceland.
Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake, NWS PTWC said.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
There are likely to be no affected structures in this region.
