577 homes destroyed in NSW bushfires, burn area more than 1.6 million ha (40.7 million acres), Australia

According to data provided by the Rural Fire Service, nearly 577 homes have been destroyed in New South Wales since the start of the fire 2019/20 season which quickly turned into the worst on record.
Statewide, the burn area now covers more than 1 650 000 ha (40 772 387 acres). This is more than during the past three bushfire seasons together.
37 homes were destroyed during 2018/19 season and 248 in the previous worst season on record – 2013/14.
