Severe hailstorms hit Alicante, causing huge agricultural damage, Spain

Damage caused by hailstorms affecting the Spanish province of Alicante during the last week of August amounted to 3 million Euro.

The hail mainly hit some 900 ha (2 224 acres) of citrus crops, around 200 million kg (44 million lbs), according to to the Agroseguro, a private company managing agricultural insurance.

The storms made a massive impact on the municipalities of Algorfa, Almoradi, Benejuzar, Benferri, and Orihuela on August 27, 2019, the company added.

Agroseguro noted that the appraisal work is already being conducted for the insured to be able to file their claims immediately.

Furthermore, the company assured that the million Euro damage is covered by the Agrarian Insurance System.
