Unprecedented hailstorm hits the city of Sanandaj, Iran
A ferocious and unprecedented spring hailstorm hit the city of Sanandaj, northwestern Iran on Wednesday morning, May 3, 2017, damaging vehicles, disrupting traffic and causing flash floods.
According to Press TV, the storm took residents by surprise and left the capital city of Sanandaj in Kordestan Province covered in ice. Tractors were sent out to clear the ice from the streets, Press TV said and added that spring hailstorms in this region are common but not as intense as this one.
Several other cities and villages across the province were also hit by hailstorms and flash flooding.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries.
