A major solar flare registered as X2.0 erupted from Active Region 3878 at 21:20 UTC on October 31, 2024. The event started at 21:12 and ended at 21:27 UTC. The flare was immediately followed by a long-duration M9.5 flare. Meanwhile, the solar radiation storm that started on October 26 entered the 7th day and continues at S1 – Minor levels.
A strong solar radiation storm is currently in progress as a result of a major X1.8 solar flare at 01:56 UTC on October 9, 2024.
An S1 – Minor solar radiation storm has been in progress since 02:50 UTC on July 23, 2024, and is expected to continue through the rest of the day and possibly into July 24.

Active Region 3664 — the source of numerous Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) over the past 7 days — began its transit of the western limb on May 13, 2024. The region remains very active, producing a long-duration M6.6 flare on May 13, associated with a likely Earth-directed CME, and an X1.7 at 02:09 UTC on May 14. Meanwhile, a solar radiation storm is in progress due to activity associated with the same region.
Proton flux started rising after 07:00 UTC on May 9, 2024, due to increased flare activity from very large and complex Active Region 3664, and reached S1 – Minor solar radiation storm threshold on May 10.
A major, long-duration solar flare measuring X1.1 erupted from Active Region 3614 at 01:33 UTC on March 23, 2024. The event started at 00:58 and ended at 02:21 UTC. A halo CME was produced, with impacts to Earth likely late March 25 or early March 26.
Although solar activity was at low levels over the past 24 hours, multiple long-duration C-class solar flares, associated with activity from Region 3599 as it rotated beyond the west limb, produced coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that sent proton flux rising to S1 – Minor levels.
Proton flux started rapidly rising at 07:30 UTC on February 12, 2024, following what appears to be an eruption from the old Region 3575 – now traversing the farside of the Sun.
