Large tornado hits Al Sharqiyah, Oman

A large tornado accompanied by thunderstorms struck the Wilayat of Ja’alan Bani Bu Ali in the Oman’s Al Sharqiyah Governorate on Saturday, April 22, 2023. No damage or injuries were reported.
In a statement released by Oman Meteorology, they confirmed the presence of a tornado associated with massive thunderclouds in the Wilayat of Ja’alan Bani Bu Ali.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had previously issued an alert for Saturday, stating that South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, and parts of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, and Al Wusta Governorates were expected to experience heavy thundershowers with rainfall ranging from 20 – 75 mm (0.8 – 3 inches)
Such large tornadoes are considered to be rare in the Sultanate’s airspace.
