Eastern Europe and parts of Asia facing severe cold snap

A severe cold snap is forecast to descend down into Eastern Europe and Asia in the coming days, bringing temperatures down to about -30 °C (-22 °F), as per numerical forecast models.
The first signs of the incoming wave of very cold air are expected in Estonia and Latvia on January 5, and then expand south to Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine by January 7, with temperatures as low as -17 °C (1.4 °F) in Belarus and -5 to -8 °C (23 – 17 °F) in central and eastern Ukraine.
By January 10, the cold wave will intensify and expand further south and well east into Asia.
