Heavy rainfall is affecting parts of southern, eastern and central China over the past couple of days, causing floods and landslides. At least 7 people have been killed and more than 200 000 affected.
Seven cities across 21 counties of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region experienced heavy rainfall since Saturday, May 25, 2019, causing flooding and landslides.
The city of Tiandeng, for example, recorded 242.8 mm (9.55 inches) of rain in 24 hours to May 28, 2019.
The resulting floods and landslides left at least 7 people dead, 2 missing and 4 injured.
9 000 people have been evacuated and 200 000 affected, authorities said, as reported by Xinhua.
185 homes have collapsed and more than 9 170 ha (22 659 acres) of crops damaged with direct economic losses of 133.59 million yuan (19.3 million U.S. dollars).
Several coastal cities in southern Guangdong province including Shenzhen, Zhongshan and Zhuhai, as well as Hong Kong and Macau, experienced more than 12 hours of heavy rainfall, SCMP reports.
Port city of Zhuhai recorded a maximum overnight rainfall of 482.8 mm (19.0 inches).
Floodwaters reached 1.5 m (4.9 feet) in some areas.
More heavy rain is expected across the south over the next 2 weeks.
