The tornado was part of a larger outbreak that swept across the southern U.S. starting on March 4. The severe storms brought heavy rain, hail, and strong winds across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas, spawning multiple tornadoes in the region.
The same storm system also brought heavy rainfall and flooding to parts of Texas, including the Dallas–Fort Worth area, where daily rainfall records were broken on March 4.
