Very bright daylight fireball over France and Spain

A very bright meteor was seen streaking through the early morning sky over France and Spain at 06:46 UTC on January 16, 2024.

The International Meteor Organization (IMO) received 455 reports from users in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, Okzitanien and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azu.

The object entered Earth’s atmosphere at a speed of about 115 000 km/h (71 500 mph). Its explosive evaporation began at 90 km (56 miles) above Sariñena and ended 44 km (27 miles) south of Mollerussa.
