Landslide buries 3 homes in port city of Barrancabermeja, Colombia
Several homes were buried after heavy rain caused a large landslide in the port city of Barrancabermeja, northern Colombia on Sunday, October 21, 2018. The event comes exactly 10 days after another large landslide hit the town of Marquetalia, central Colombia, killing at least 11 people.
The fire department said the slide buried 3 homes, leaving at least 9 people dead and 5 missing.
Most of the homes were made of wood and were located in a poor neighborhood of the city.
"We recovered nine bodies… Five of them were minors and four adults," Fire Department Chief Alexander Diaz said. "Fortunately, three children managed to get out when the mudslide hit and are alive."
Just 10 days ago, on October 11, a large landslide that took place in the central Colombian town of Marquetalia (population 15 000) left at least 11 people dead and 4 injured. 58 people were rescued as of October 12.
