A shallow earthquake registered by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) as M5.9 hit off the coast of Nemuro Peninsula, Hokkaido, at 21:23 UTC on June 21 (06:23 JST, June 22), 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 20 km (12.4 miles). USGS is reporting M6.1 at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).
