Tropical Storm Sonia forms in the eastern Pacific
Tropical Storm Sonia formed southwest of Baja California on Saturday, October 25, 2025, becoming the 18th named storm of the 2025 eastern Pacific hurricane season.

As of 02:00 PDT (09:00 UTC) on Saturday, Sonia was located roughly 1 343 km (835 miles) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Maximum sustained winds (averaged over 1-minute) reached 65 km/h (40 mph).
The minimum central pressure was estimated at 1 006 hPa, as the storm was moving westward at 14 km/h (9 mph). Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 96 km (60 miles) from the center.
Sonia is forecast to continue moving westwards through Saturday, before turning northwest while losing speed over the weekend. While the storm is expected to strengthen over the weekend, a weakening trend is forecast to begin by Tuesday, October 28.
The system is expected to remain over the open waters of the eastern Pacific, and transition to a post-tropical depression by late Tuesday.
