Deep M6.1 earthquake hits Fiji region
A deep earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.1 hit the Fiji region at 23:35 UTC on May 7, 2021, at a depth of 384 km (238 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.0 at a depth of 392 km (243 miles).
The epicenter was located 344 km (214 miles) WNW of Pangai, Tonga, and 426 km (265 miles) SE of Labasa, Fiji.
There are just a few people living within 100 km (62 miles).
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
7 000 people are estimated to have felt weak shaking.
