Widespread floods kill 5, displace more than 100 people in Iran

Continuous heavy rainfall from October 1 to October 4, 2019, caused widespread floods in Iran, killing at least five people and displacing more than 100.

Among the 22 affected provinces are South Khorasan, Fars, and Hormozgan, with Sistan and Baluchestan as the worst-hit areas.

The victims were killed in two separate flooding incidents in Hormozgan province. According to reports, floodwaters swept two vehicles with the victims onboard. Among the fatalities were a woman and a child. 

137 have been evacuated in the area, while 300 people are affected.

The Iranian Red Crescent assured that they are providing immediate assistance to those affected, including shelter, emergency relief, food, and hygiene kits.

Relief operation is ongoing in Sistan and Baluchestan.

Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) coalition, encouraged Iranians to help the flood-stricken residents of Hormuzgan province.

Drier weather condition is expected over the affected provinces starting October 8.
