Asteroid 2019 RC1 to flyby Earth at 0.48 LD on September 7
A newly discovered asteroid designated 2019 RC1 will flyby Earth at a distance of 0.48 LD / 0.00122 AU (182 509 km / 113 406 miles) at 10:48 UTC on September 7, 2019. This is the 40th known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the second this month.
2019 RC1 belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids. It was first observed at Mt. Lemmon Survey, Arizona on September 5, two days before its close approach to our planet.
The object has an estimated diameter between 4.5 and 10 m (14.7 – 32.8 feet).
It will fly past us at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 20.34 km/s at 10:48 UTC on September 7.
